“Digital Art Pioneers and Trendsetters” - an Inspirational Panel on the Digital Arts
I wanted to take a moment to wish all of our readers a Happy New Year and mention a personal appearance that is just around the corner…
I’ll be winging my way to Macworld in San Francisco to participate in the Corel sponsored discussion panel entitled “Digital Art Pioneers and Trendsetters”. The details were included in a press releases posted by Scott Gentry. I just thought that I would elaborate a bit….
This will be a very open discussion about current trends in the digital arts and what we predict will happen as this fascinating new art form evolves. Many different directions and attitudes will be represented amongst the six panelists and the session should be quite lively. Although all the featured artists share Corel’s amazing Painter software as our common denominator, many different styles will be represented, ranging from futuristic fantasy style to neo-classical. As a part of the Macworld User Conference “Inspire” sessions, we will meet on Thursday, January 8th from 3:00 to 4:15 in Room 2002, in the West Hall. I can’t wait to sit down with this well-respected group.
Join us and say “Hi” if you can catch my attention….
As a bit of background, I’ve been using Corel Painter to create digital art for about ten years and have enjoyed great success with my results. In 2001 I won the Kodak Innovators Award, an honor that was also bestowed upon my wife and fellow Painter Master, Maura Dutra. Shortly thereafter, I was invited to do an Artist-in Residency at the Eitlejorg Museum of Western Art and display my work alongside the Ansel Adams retrospective that was then touring the country. What a terrific and humbling experience that was…
Over the ensuing years I have been blessed many such accolades for my digital painting but the truth be known, I do it because of the unbridled joy the process brings into my life. I happily accept commissions but the bulk of my digital painting remains self-motivated. Doing what we love is always a great path to personal satisfaction and if the resulting work touches others, all the better. Up until recently, I worked with an international publisher that successfully distributed my open edition work in sixty-eight countries. Now that I’m out from under that contract I’ll be happily offering limited edition prints through our soon-to-be-expanded webstore / gallery. Stay tuned for more news on that topic
I enjoy exploring several different types of subject matter with my digital painting - “La Danse”, “New West”, and “Nature and Wildlife” - and I’ve attached a couple of my dance images to this post. Each image is derived from an original photographic capture and then recreated in the Painter X environment. If this sort of thing interests you, check out my wife’s excellent tutorial here.
